A stage jig was a bawdy stage show, featuring song and dance, popular in England during the 16th and 17th centuries. The stories, usually taken from folk tales, included the traditional assortment of tricksters, cuckolds and the like, while the music were popular songs of the time with lyrics adapted to their new setting.
